This is a quick test of the state of respect for metadata and profiles when uploading image to WordPress. Images uploaded using WordPress 3.1.1. Hit on ‘read more…’ to see the results.
1. Thumbnail size, generated.
2. Medium size, generated.
3. Full Size, original uploaded file at 1:1 pixel dimensions
Download the above image and check their metadata in Photoshop, you’ll see that the Thumbnail and Medium size scaled images generated by WordPress when I uploaded the fullsize image have no metadata or colour profile, while the Full Size image is the original uploaded file, and thus retains metadata and profile.
It appears that currently WordPress is failing to maintain IPTC and EXIF metadata and ICC colour profiles when it generated scaled copies of images.
Photographers should be aware of this!
UPDATE – Solved!
After some valuable discussion on the AOL ProDIG mailing list, it appears that there is a WordPress plugin ImageMagick-Engine which switches the image compression system from GD to ImageMagick and maintains metadata and profiles.
